Kiran Rao, wife of Aamir Khan, was born in Bangalore. She hails from a royal family (her grandfather J.Rameshwar Rao being the Rajaf Wanaparthy) o. Kiran was raised in Kolkata where she received her education. She happens to be cousin to actress Aditi Rao Hydari.

She is currently a producer, screenwriter and director. Kiran started her career as an assistant director with Ashutosh Gowariker`s Lagaan, where she met Aamir Khan. Aamir and Kiran ended up being together on the sets on Lagaan. The couple tied the knot on December 2005 after Aamir divorced his first wife Reena Dutta.

Aamir and Kiran currently reside in Bandra, Mumbai. They got blessed with a son via surrogacyon 5thDecember in the year 2011 whom they named Azad Rao Khan (after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad).

Kiran Rao, who is a hands-on mom to her son Azad, is all praise for her husband Aamir Khan`s ex-wife Reena`s parenting skills. Aamir and Reena together have two children – son Junaid and daughter Ira, with whom even Kiran shares an amicable relationship. Reena,with whom Aamir ended his 15 – year-old marriage in 2002,is just wonderful and she has done such a great job with these kids, smiles Kiran.

They are very intelligent super kids. On getting Aamir, she (Kiran) got a great package deal with this super family. Kiran says when she first met Junaid and Ira, Ira was a little girl and they became friends instantly. Even if they had not had Azad, she would have felt really complete because of Junaid and Ira.
