Salman Khan's complete biography



Salman Khan is an Indian actor who appears mostly in Bollywood films. He is originally known as Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan. He is very famous in the industry for not just his acting but for various other activities like his charity organization ‘Being Human’ which helps in collecting funds for charity works, through sale of various products, his helping nature, his paintings and also because of controversies regarding the women in his life, the black buck shooting and drunken driving. Salman Khan is among the best looking stars of today and was even voted the 7th most good looking man in the world by ‘People’ Magazine in the year 2004.

The 5 foot 5 and a half inches tall actor Salman Khan was born on 27th December, 1965 to parents Salma Khan and Salim Khan. Salman Khan originally hails from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Salman Khan has 2 brothers and two sisters and is the eldest amongst his siblings. His brothers are Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan and sisters are Arpita and Alvira. Alvira is his biological sister, while Arpita, his pampered youngest sister, was adopted by Salim and Helen. His sister Alvira is married to Bollywood actor-producer-director Atul Agnihotri and brother Arbaaz Khan is married to Bollywood actor Malaika Arora. Salman Khan’s step-mother is the famous yesteryear actress Helen.

Lesser known facts about his biography are that Salman Khan’s favorite actor is Sylvester Stallone and favorite actress Preity Zinta. Salman Khan also loves travelling to London as that is his favorite place.

Salman Khan made his Bollywood debut with the film Biwi Ho To Aisi in a supporting role. He appeared as the main lead in his next film Maine Pyar Kiya opposite Bhagyashree which was a blockbuster hit. As per his biography, Maine Pyar Kiya went on to become one of India’s highest grossing films. Salman Khan won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award, and a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award.

Salman Khan then appeared in the movie Baaghi with actress Nagma which was another Box Office success. After this he starred in films like Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa and Saajan which were all hits and proved that Salman Khan was a successful actor. But the years 1992 and 1993 proved to be tough for Salman Khan as his movies during that period failed to appeal to the audience.

Salman Khan made a comeback with the super successful movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun… ! opposite Madhuri Dixit which gained him widespread recognition and made him very famous. The movie remains one of the highest grossing films of Bollywood till date, and is known for its fabulous songs and cinematography. Apart from this Salman Khan was praised for his performance, earning him his second nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare.

Salman Khan next appeared in the comedy movie Andaz Apna Apna along with Aamir Khan. Though the film didn’t do too well at the Box Office it attained much popularity for the fabulous comedy portrayal by the actors and gained a cult status since its release. An animated version of the film will be released in the year 2013.

Salman Khan proved that he was here to stay with the next film Karan Arjun where he appeared alongside Shahrukh Khan. Salman Khan was again nominated for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare, which was eventually won by his co-star Shahrukh Khan. His next film Khamoshi: The Musical, co-starring Manisha Koirala was a box office failure but gained him critical acclaim. He strengthened his position as a successful actor in his next movie Jeet which was a success at the Box Office.

His next movies Judwaa which was a super-hit film and Auzaar a failure at the Box Office, but which gained cult status after its video release ,were the only two releases in that year. Next came Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai which was moderately successful. His next film in a supporting role wasKuch Kuch Hota Hai, which earned him the Best actor in a Supporting Role Award at the Filmfare.

From the year 2000 onwards, Salman Khan has appeared in numerous films of various genres starting withHar Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, both of which co-starred Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. His performance was much appreciated and critics noted his turn towards a more serious role with these films. His next release Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam was a semi-hit at the Box Office.

Salman Khan made a comeback after a break with the film Tere Naam and his performance was praised by critics. His work was noticed internationally in the movie Phir Milenge where he played the role of an AIDS patient. It was well appreciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for presenting the problems of AIDS patient in today’s world.

Salman Khan’s next film Heroes was critically acclaimed. His next film Wanted directed by choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva was declared a smash hit in its first weekend of release itself. The action film turned out to be a huge success. In the same year, he appeared in two other films, Main Aurr Mrs Khannaand London Dreams. His first 2010 release was his dream project and self scripted film Veer which did not do well at the Box-office.

Salman Khan’s next release, Dabangg, which was produced by his brother Arbaaz Khan, made a record opening at the box office and Box Office India declared it an all-time blockbuster. For his performance inDabangg, Khan received a Star Screen Award for Best Actor and a Stardust Award for Star of the Year – Male and was nominated for his sixth Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Anupama Chopra from NDTV wrote about his performance, “It’s the role of a lifetime and Salman Khan bites into it like a starving man devours a feast. He inhabits it fully, strutting and swaggering and even, spoofing himself.

His 2011 releases Ready and Bodyguard have done extremely well at the Box office and declared super-hits. His upcoming movies for the years 2012 and 2013 are Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Most Wanted, Partner 2, No Entry Main Entry, I Am Hariprasad and Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam. Salman fans are eagerly awaiting his Eid release of Ek Tha Tiger whose promos have created a buzz among the public.

On 11 October 2007, Salman Khan accepted an offer from Madame Tussaud’s wax museum in London to have a wax replica made of himself. His life-size wax figure was installed there on 15 January 2008, making him the fourth Indian actor to have been replicated as a wax statue in the museum. Salman Khan has been the subject of several controversies, including certain legal troubles.

In August 2011, he admitted he suffers from Trigeminal neuralgia, a facial nerve disorder commonly known as the suicide disease. In an interview he said that he has been quietly suffering it for the past seven years, but now the pain’s become unbearable. It has even affected his voice, making it much harsher. He had to go for an operation to treat his nerve disorder in the US in 2011. After recovering from the operation and going against the advice of his doctors to desist from too much physical activity, he continued to shoot for his filmEk Tha Tiger. Reportedly, the pain has not completely disappeared, but our Brave heart, Sallu Bhai keeps soldiering on. His millions fans worldwide, are praying for not only a pain free Salman, but also a happy personal life for their beloved star.
